Which game systems do you own?

To allow Ed to better understand his audience, I thought I would make a survey thread so he can understand what kind of gamers we are. Feel free to add or suggest other questions.

1. Of the platforms that were planned for The Big Blue (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android), which would you most likely want to play The Little Blue on?

2. It it were up to you, which additional platforms would you bring The Little Blue to?

3. In terms of the Kickstarter, which platforms should LB be developed for?

4. Which game systems do you own? (consoles, computers, other)

5. Of the above, which do you actively play or buy games for?

6. What are some of the games you have most recently beaten that you enjoyed?

7. Which games are you currently playing through now?

8. What are some of your favourite video game genres?

9. Which gaming platforms do you plan on purchasing in the future?

10. What were some of your childhood games?

My answers.

1. PC (hopefully not Windows 8)

2. Dreamcast. A long stretch, I know, but it's one of the most popular retro consoles that still gets commercial releases (even if they are unofficial, they still sell thousands of copies). If these games are being made to run on a tablet or a phone, I'm sure they could run on a Dreamcast. Make it a stretch goal! (the retro gamers will love you for it).

3. To keep the cost as low as possible, I would make it PC exclusive. Only add Mac and Linux support if you think it will keep the price reasonable, or make them stretch goals. I would NOT like to see mobile platforms featured in the KS. Make them stretch goals or don't feature them at all. The perception that BB was a "phone game" is one of the main reasons it did not get funded.

4. Atari 2600, Famicom, NES, SNES, N64, Wii, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, GBC, GBA, Wonderswan, PSP.

5. I play and buy games for all of them except for PS3, PSP and Wii. I have not touched those systems for 3 years and do not plan to buy any future games for them, ever.

6. Actraiser (Super Famicom), Survival Kids (GBC), Rockman DASH 2 (Playstation 1), Enemy Zero (Saturn), Metal Walker (GBC), Slapstick (Super Famicom), Megaman Battle Network 2 (GBA), Marko's Magic Football (Genesis), Red Seeds Profile (PS3), Medarot: Perfect Edition (Wonderswan).

7. Medarot 2 (GBC), Fire Emblem Gaiden (Famicom), Bokujou Monogatari GB3 (GBC), Grandia (Saturn), Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner (PS2), Dragon Quest VIII (replaying on PS2).

8.

2D platformers (Castlevania, Megaman, Ecco),

pixel art text adventures (Tantei Saburo, Phoenix Wright)

arcade style games (Jojo, Gunstar Heroes, Atari 2600 games)

adventure games (D2, Illusion of Gaia, Megaman Legends)

older JRPGs,

some sim games (classic Harvest Moon, Seaman),

some older 3D platformers (Donkey Kong 64, Spyro),

some racing games (Pole Position, Enduro, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer)

9. Commodore 64, PC Engine, Gamecube, Wonderswan Colour, Sega CD.

10. Ecco, Sonic 2, Castlevania Bloodlines, Pokemon Red, Pokemon Gold, Dragon Warrior Monsters, Harvest Moon, Final Fantasy Legend 2, Donkey Kong 64, Ocarina of Time, Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode 2, Wario Land 2, Pokemon TCG, Secret of Mana, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, Lufia 2, DBZ Legacy of Goku 2.

  • @Andrew: Do you use a power converter for your PC Engine? My Famicom runs off a model 1 Sega Genesis power supply and SNES RF unit. I think I read a PC Engine can run off a Genesis model 2 power supply and NES/SNES/Genesis RF but I haven't looked much into it yet.

    1. Windows personally, cause I can take the game on my laptop all over the world :)

    2. Nintendo 3DS!! Haha, it would be nice to play it on something small and portable but this comment is a joke and non-serious :).

4.I own DS and 3DS personally but have access to xbox, wii, ps3, wiiu and gamecube. Windows and Mac too if that counts.

    5. 3DS mostly.

I'll come back later for the rest.

    2) As many as possible.
    3) Windows, Linux & Mac as main platforms. The rest as stretch goals.
    4) PC, Master System, Mega Drive (Genesis), Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox, PSP, Xbox360, PS3, PS Vita, Android phone (I don't use the latter for games though).
    5) PC. Xbox360 and PS3 only for exclusives.
    6) NiGHTS HD, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Persona 4 Golden, Catherine, Starcraft 2 HOTS (multiplayer).
    7) Persona 4 Arena and Bioshock Infinite. Not sure if I'll end up finishing Bioshock Infinite, gameplay is too boring. Still playing Starcraft 2 for the multiplayer.
    8) I don't have any real favorites. If the game has a solid story and characters there's a good chance I'll enjoy playing it regardless of the genre.
    9) Wii U (I never cared for Nintendo consoles, but Bayonetta 2 is exclusive for it and I'm getting that game no matter what). Xbox One (Crimson Dragon. As a Panzer Dragoon fan, I can't miss out on this game). Probably a PS4 as well.
    10) Ecco: The Tides of Time, Sonic 2 and 3, Shinobi 3, ... Plenty of fun games but Ecco: The Tides of Time is the only 16-bit game that really stood out for me.
